CATA Educational Webinars

CATA Educational Webinar: 2024 Changes to the Independent Contractor Rule: Is your Organization in Compliance (Sept. 24, 2024)

  • The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has issued a final rule to clarify who is an independent contractor under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

  • Join Ms. Jamie M. Hasty, Vice President of SESCO Management Consultants, to review how this change in regulation impacts your organization. She will discuss the specific changes to the regulation with a focus on the six (6) determining factors for an Independent Contractor. Further, she will explain the importance of this change and how your organization can review and gain compliance with the DOL. Last, she will cover a few basics on Wage and Hour compliance and review how the FLSA play a part in this upcoming change.

  • The Final Rule also rescinds a 2021 rule in which two core factors-control over the work and opportunity for profit or loss-carried greater weight in determining the status of independent contractor. The 2021 rule, which is still in effect, made it easier for employers to classify workers as independent contractors, rather than as employees.

CATA Educational Seminar: Dealer Advertising Review Presented by the BBB (Aug. 14, 2024)

  • With the vehicle sales marketplace constantly evolving, the BBB Advertising Review Program is a valuable resource for dealers and plays a key role in keeping the playing field fair and competitive. Recently, a number of new questionable tactics by some dealerships have tested the limit of the law in Illinois. Dealers need to stay aware of the Illinois Motor Vehicle Advertising Regulations and how they apply to emerging trends.
  • At this seminar, dealers will learned more about the rules and how they apply to advertised prices, discounts, rebates, finance and lease offers, website pop-ups and coupons plus many other issues. Dealers are encouraged to bring questions based on their own experiences as well.
  • The seminar was presented by Patricia Kelly, Senior Counsel Special Projects at the Better Business Bureau.
